Indoor & Outdoor Wedding Spaces at The Barn at Pleasant Acres

One of the first questions couples ask when venue shopping is whether they have to choose between an outdoor ceremony and an indoor reception, and whether that transition creates a logistical headache. At The Barn at Pleasant Acres in Saint Leonard, MD, the answer is straightforward. You get both; they connect naturally, and your guests never have to load into cars to move between them.

Here’s a practical walkthrough of each space on our property, what it holds, and how couples actually use it on a wedding day.

A Closer Look at the Indoor & Outdoor Wedding Spaces at The Barn at Pleasant Acres

Every space on this property serves a specific purpose in the wedding day flow. Understanding how they connect helps you picture the day before you ever visit.

The Front Lawn: Where Ceremonies Begin

The outdoor ceremony site sits on the front lawn of our Southern Maryland farm. Barn wood benches are available for outdoor seating, so guests won’t have to use folding chairs the moment they arrive. This is where the day officially begins for most couples, and the open property gives your photographer natural light and an unobstructed setting without requiring a separate location shoot.

For couples who want the outdoor ceremony experience and the comfort of moving indoors immediately after, the layout of the property makes that transition smooth.

The Main Level: The Heart of the Indoor & Outdoor Wedding Spaces

The indoor reception space on the main level is where barn wood tables and upscale Chiavari chairs are set, chandeliers are lit, and bistro string lights run across the ceiling. The full lighting package, including ceiling lights and backdrop draping, is included with every wedding package. The room is dressed before your first vendor arrives.

Up to 200 guests can be accommodated for your reception. The sound system with a microphone and playlist hookup is available on the main level, along with a projector and screen on request. Set up and teardown of all tables, chairs, and client decorations are handled by our staff.

Indoor & Outdoor Wedding Spaces

The Mezzanine: A Second Floor With a Purpose

The Mezzanine sits on the upper floor and overlooks the main reception level below. Before the ceremony, it’s the Groom’s preparation space. After the ceremony, it becomes an elevated viewing point guests can use during the reception, adding depth to the room without requiring a separate gathering area.

Fabric swagging is available for the Mezzanine, which photographs particularly well when the main floor is lit below.

The Lower Level: Built for Smaller Gatherings

The Lower Level is a basement space designed for intimate gatherings of 40 or fewer guests. Its character is distinctly different from the main level, more contained and suited to couples who want a reception that feels close rather than expansive. For micro weddings where the guest count is intentionally small, the Lower Level gives the celebration its own room rather than placing a handful of guests in a space built for two hundred. A sound system is available for Lower Level events upon request.

The Bridal Suite: Morning Through Ceremony

The Bridal Suite is available with early access before the ceremony. It includes a dedicated bride attendant, gown steaming, hair and makeup stations, and a private bathroom with storage space. Having the suite available early means the morning has a designated home base, avoiding a rush before the ceremony begins. Engagement photos at the venue can also be arranged in advance, giving couples a chance to get familiar with the indoor & outdoor wedding spaces at The Barn at Pleasant Acres before the wedding day itself.

Photography and the Full Property

The 13.5 acres include a farmhouse and antique barns that serve as photography backdrops without requiring a separate location. The antique red truck on the property is available for photo opportunities. Parking is ample and fully accessible, with handicap-accessible spaces and golf cart shuttles running throughout the event.

Conclusion

Reading about a space and standing in it are two different experiences. If you want to understand how the front lawn connects to the main level, how the Mezzanine looks from below, and how the Lower Level feels for a smaller group, the clearest next step is a tour.

FAQs

Can we use both indoor and outdoor spaces in the same wedding package?

Yes. The outdoor ceremony site on the front lawn and the indoor reception space on the main level are both available within our wedding packages. The outdoor cocktail hour space is also available. Reach out to our team to confirm which layout works best for your package and guest count.

How does the transition from ceremony to reception work for guests?

Everything stays on the same property. After the outdoor ceremony, guests move toward the main level for the cocktail hour and reception. Golf cart shuttles run throughout the event to assist guests, so nobody is navigating the property on their own.

What’s the capacity for the main level reception space?

The main level accommodates up to 200 guests for your reception. For smaller gatherings of 40 or fewer, the Lower Level is a separate, more intimate option with its own distinct atmosphere.

Do we need to bring in our own lighting and furniture?

No. Barn wood tables, Chiavari chairs, chandeliers, bistro string lights, ceiling lights, and backdrop draping are all included. Set up and teardown of tables and chairs are handled by our staff.
